Akvis Artwork special effect tool released
Akvis has released Akvis Artwork for Mac and PC. It’s available as a standalone application and as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop. It costs $72, and a demo is available for download.
Artwork converts digital photos to images that look like they’ve been painted. It can simulate an oil portrait, a landscape painting or a still life picture. The software sports fully automatic and assisted modes. You can control stroke direction, for example, using a special brush to define guiding lines. You can also control whether the painting has a flat background or rough surface; you can add a signature or an inscription using custom font and color.
The initial release converts photos into oil paintings; Akvis said that future releases will support additional painting techniques.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.3.9, G4 or better (including Intel), 512MB RAM, 100MB hard disk space. Versions of Artwork are available for Photoshop 6 and higher, and Photoshop Elements.
