How to keep oil painting
If an Oil paintings being preserved appropriately, it can keep its color for several hundred years, conversely, its colour layer may occur chap, fall off and color change. Then, how to protect your Oil paintings from being damaged?
First, we can spread two layers lightly natural beeswax which had been dissolved in turpentine at the back of the anvas in advance. It can completely prevents the humid air to plunge and brings harm.
Second, oil paintings must avoid the long-term perpendicular incidence of sunlight. Because the ultraviolet ray’s destructiveness to color is strong, which will bring discoloration and color deterioration.
Third, the room which stores oil painting\’s must be ventilated and moisture-proof, away from bath room and kitchen as far as possible to prevent dust, lampblack from damaing canvas, and the room should keep at a certain temperature and the humidity. Those moistured canvas must be dry in the shade slowly, insolation is prohibited, ortherwise the picture would be easy to fall off.
Fouth, two pieces of Oil paintings are prohibit to paste face to face, in order to avoid the high temperature may cause pictures stick together and lead to fall down and damage of picture.
Fifth, when rolling oil painting, make canvas inside and picture outside, roll a fiber container outside, then use the plastic cloth to wrap up again, in order to prevents the picture from cracking.
Sixth, used a wet clean cloth to scratch gently if there is some dust on the Oil paintings which hanged on the wall. If the Oil paintings has some lampblack on it, use light soapy water and clean water try to scour gently, after that use water suck to absorb water on the picture quickly, then take electric fan to blow the surface of Oil paintings lightly. If for a Oil paintings that has long history and chap, be sure to use little water and wipe dry partial.
Seventh, nomal Oil paintings can be preserved for 200-300 years, but with the lapse of time, some oil paintings may has chap after dozens of years. If there are many pieces of collection, can use plastic cloth to pick up all oil paintings, then put into wooden crate so as to avoid mechanical damage.
